That's me

The Basics

I was born February 28, 1977 in upstate New York. Although I’ve lived all over the country, over 20 years of my life have been in Virginia, and that’s where I call home. I’m a web developer by trade and I love it. I’m married, with two young sons. I’ve always enjoyed writing, but making time for this blog is going to be difficult.

I’m a fairly even-keeled guy. I’m moderate politically, easy to get along with, smarter than the average bear, but not a super genius. What free time I have, I like to spend playing poker, fishing, or playing softball.

The Weight

Growing up I was always athletic, I wrestled and played soccer until I tore up my knee when I was 17. Then life got much different, I had a ton of free time and didn’t know what to do with myself. I managed to stay in decent shape for the next 10 years or so. My last season of wrestling I wrestled 160 pounds (cutting weight from 175), and until I was about 28 I weighed between 170 and 180 pounds.

Then, it hit me. My wife was pregnanat with our second son, and I started gaining sympathy weight. Since then, I gained 35 pounds, up to 215. Enough was enough. I’m 5′10″ and I carry the weight pretty well, but 55 pounds since I was 17? That’s too much, time to take control before it gets way out of hand.

‘Fat’ is a state of mind to me, and many people. I’m certainly not the biggest guy in the world, but in my mind I’m heavier than I should be. So, I’ve embarked on a journey to lose weight. I am dedicated to changing my lifestyle so that I can be more healthy.

The Goal

I do not want to be skinny. I never was, and never will be. My goal for now is to get down to 185. After I get there, I’m going to reassess myself and determine if I want to stay there, or begin to gain muscle mass, but that’s a debate for another time.
