Cheated

Yesterday was a bad day to be on a diet. I was at a client meeting that included lunch which was sandwiches, chips, and cookies. I did manage to eat only half a sandwich and completely avoided the chips. The cookies however, were too irresistible. And they were good, too, I went for an oatmeal raisin, actually, two of those, and a chocolate chip. Nice and soft, not dry and crispy.

Then it was cake and ice cream day at work. We have birthday celebrations twice a month, and yesterday was one of those days. Red velvet cake and cookies and cream ice cream. I didn’t want to be rude to the persons responsible for throwing the birthday party, so I had to have at least a little bit. So I ate, and it was good like the cookies.

Finally, last night after work was the company fantasy football draft. This meant no time for dinner, and I knew it all day. There was no escaping it, some one would order pizza (which I crave more than any other food since being on this diet) and I would have to have some. Sure enough, three pizzas arrived, and I was getting hungry. I only had one and a half slices. Plus some M&M’s. And some more cookies and cream ice cream. Oh the shame. After eating a wide array of foods explicitly forbidden by any type of diet, I felt disgusting.

Life certainly does go on though. I’ll have to be a lot more conscious today of what I eat and it will all balance out. Some one I respect, much smarter than me, OK, I’m talking about my dad, loves to say “All things in moderation.” I haven’t eaten pizza in over a month, and I don’t remember the last cookie I ate. So I am justifying my digression from the diet yesterday. One thing’s for sure, I still consumed far fewer calories than a normal day when I was just eating whatever I wanted.
